MSM - the stuff that health is made of
by Christina | Feb 27, 2018 | Blog |
Joint problems, sallow skin, dull hair, circulatory disorders, depression, anxiety, cataracts, brittle fingernails, flaccid connective tissue, pain and inflammation - MSM is the divine substance that can provide important support on each of these fronts and sometimes even be the only salvation.
Elfriede's story
I have heard a lot about MSM, but I only understood its importance after I met Elfriede. Elfriede is a 76-year-old, slim, lively woman whose days are full and who goes dancing with her husband several times a week. But just a year ago, she says, things were different. She suffered from severe rheumatism and had to take strong medication, the side effects of which took their toll on her delicate body. "I couldn't use my fingers at all, my husband had to undress and dress me." When you see her busy at work, it's hard to imagine.
Elfriede likes to socialise and knows God and the world. So one day she came across the information that MSM helps against joint inflammation.
MSM - an underestimated substance
MSM is an organic sulphur compound that can supply the human body with valuable natural sulphur. Our body consists of 0.2% of sulphur. That may not sound like much, but it is five times more than magnesium and forty times more than iron. Nevertheless, its importance for our health is criminally underestimated. It is often stated that sulphur deficiency is rare. On the other hand, there are many healing reports from people who have been helped by MSM.
This was also the case for Elfriede, who, together with vitamin D3 and K2, was able to stop taking her medication completely within a very short time. Today she is pain-free and feels healthy. After I tell her about my two-week flu illness, she laughs: "So many people have been ill now. I've had to deal with a lot of colds, but I've stayed healthy. I think I'm really well looked after."
MSM for beauty purposes
Enviable, I can only say, and of course the MSM powder is now also in my medicine cabinet. And in my bathroom. Because MSM is also available as a gel that can be applied to the face. It is highly moisturising, collagen-forming and anti-inflammatory, all of which I can confirm. I use it as a first layer (Here you can find more information about "layering"), before I can Snail slime cream and then apply my day cream. I have opted for this gel because I always make sure that there are no parabens, mineral and silicone oils etc. in it (I would like to point out here that this company does not pay me anything, these are just my experiences, so you are welcome to use another equivalent product):
MSM and my health
But what is much more important to me is to tell you about my experience with the powder (Elfriede recommended the powder and not capsules, as it is the more economical and much cheaper option). I've been taking it for two months now because I've suffered from joint pain since I was a child. This is partly for psychological reasons - after all, it led me to my profession as a psycho-kinesiologist - and partly for adventurous reasons - could also be a result of my adventurous time in Africa - my childhood was a bit unusual. I like to solve my problems honestly, so I prefer not to take any medication and certainly none for chronic complaints. I'm passionate about health issues - just like people who feel compelled to treat themselves do. I am simply forced to take good care of myself. But shouldn't everyone?
With good self-care, I was able to minimise my pain to a level where you can hardly speak of pain. But in December, the flu, personal changes and professional stress came together and I wasn't feeling well. That's when I met Elfriede.
After 2 months of taking MSM
I have been taking the powder for two months now and am symptom-free. Full stop. I simply have no joint problems at all at the moment. I don't want to shout about it. That's why I wanted to wait with this article. But another thing took me completely by surprise. For some years now, I have been trying to treat my age-related long-sightedness with the Pinhole glasses and eye training. Then I read a really good book, which was unfortunately written in small letters, and almost freaked out. I'd had enough. I went to the optician and had reading glasses made. But while I was waiting for them, I realised that my eyes had improved.
What disappeared at the same time as my MSM intake were period pains. Just like that. I see. So that's how it works too. My hair grows much faster, that's the only thing I'm not so pleased about. However, I have to say that despite the winter, there are hardly any split ends and the amount that falls out when I wash my hair is also significantly reduced. So the quality of my hair has improved.
The gel makes my skin beautiful and I am very happy with it. My skin reacted very sensitively to a long walk last Sunday. It was probably the mixture of sunshine and icy cold wind. I was shocked by the red patches that spread all over my face in the evening. I can't even say whether it was sunburn or hypothermia, I can only say that it was much better the next day with the MSM gel and completely gone within 2 hours of applying it in the morning.
(Robert Franz is a brand that I trust, which is why I opted for this powder decided - nevertheless again the note, this only reflects my experience)
How does MSM work?
MSM is important for the immune system, the vascular walls, the musculoskeletal system, the connective tissue and the eyes! I'm going to pick up my glasses tomorrow and then I'll have them there when I need them. I still can't see like I used to when I read. But I have to recognise that my eyesight has improved.
So much for Elfriede's and my story. So what can this MSM do and what is it good for?
-
One of the most important areas of application is its proven ability to alleviate Pain and Inflammations
-
Sulphur is essential for the Immune systemas it transports selenium
-
MSM has the ability, Muscle pain and Cramps or to eliminate it. (it is even administered to racehorses for this reason)
-
It is used for the production of Collagen which is an important building block of skin, cartilage and connective tissue - therefore good for joints, skin and hair
-
MSM has also been proven to help against Allergies
-
Sulphur is an important component of the synovial fluid and can therefore be used in all Joint complaints be helpful
-
Especially in the treatment of Osteoarthritis MSM has proven to be very effective
-
Sulphur provides a biologically active structure for our Proteins and Enzymesthat control important vital functions
-
MSM enables the body to repair destroyed Restore cells and tissue structures
Areas of application
I can hardly go into all the chemical reactions of the body in which sulphur plays an essential role. As mentioned above, it can also be used externally in the form of a gel for inflammation or skin care. It can also be applied to painful areas or joints and is absorbed very quickly. It is also recommended for athlete's foot.
If you are wondering whether MSM is something for you, I can only heartily recommend that you give it a try. You may be in for a surprise like I was with my eyes. Here is a list of complaints for which MSM helps:
-
Chronic pain

I think that sounds convincing. It's definitely worth a try.
Not without my MSM
As you can see, I'm pretty excited. But are you surprised?
Dosage
As I said, I prefer the powder because firstly I know what I have and secondly it's cheaper. The recommended dosage is 1/2 to 1 teaspoon dissolved in water or juice. However, Elfriede also mentioned the possibility of much higher dosages, depending on body weight and the severity of the symptoms. As excess sulphur is excreted in the urine, it is not so easy to overdose. I would still increase the dosage carefully if you intend to do so.
You can also have detox symptoms in the first few days. I had an unpleasant headache for the first two days. Nevertheless, I have to say that the effect simply blew me away. I have found my "substance" 🙂
Hello Christina
Thanks for the report and the tip.
I once received the drops as a gift and gave them back because they were so unpalatable that I couldn't take them. Can you please write something about the flavour of the powder? Thank you very much.
Dear greetings
Eva
Dear Eva,
The powder also tastes bitter. Personally, I don't mind it. If you are sensitive, you can stir it into a juice and dilute it accordingly, so you can control it a little.
As the health effect is very important to me, I don't mind the taste at all. 😉
Kind regards,
Christina
One question please: how does the powder taste, I am quite sensitive to vomiting if it doesn't taste right!
Dear Annemarie,
then this is probably not for you. As you can read in the last comment, the powder tastes rather bitter. I don't think it's bad, but sensitive people won't be thrilled.
All my love,
Christina
I have been taking a teaspoon of pure MSM powder from Robert Franz in my mouth regularly for a few weeks and drinking water or a good diluted mother juice. I have had less joint pain since then, but my hair has started to fall out a lot again, and I also drink a home-pressed green wild herb juice (dandelion, sage, yarrow, ground ivy, nettle and others) every day. I am 76 years old and I am doing quite well. Is it better to take half a teaspoon 3 times? And does it make any difference whether I take it before meals or directly with meals?
Dear Claudia,
I would not take the powder pure in the mouth. It's better to dissolve it in water and drink it. Pure it is already in a very high concentration, even if you drink water afterwards. I have never heard of it causing hair to fall out. They grow much faster, just like fingernails. It's a good idea to drink it in several portions throughout the day. And above all, it's important to drink and not swallow the powder.
It's great that it helps with the joint pain. It is a great remedy. It is recommended to drink it with meals. Personally, I also take it in between meals as I don't drink directly with food (TCM).
Best wishes and all the best,
Christina
Hello Christina,
Are you still taking MSM? or only as a cure?
And the link for the powder doesn't work, what is your recommendation?
Dear Stephi,
I only take it as a cure. I took it for a relatively long time - as described in the article because of my joints. I'm very pleased that they now seem to be completely healthy, thanks in large part to MSM. So now I only take it from time to time or when I've been doing intensive sport.
I'll replace the link straight away, thanks for the tip. You have to keep updating the links.
Best regards,
Christina
